Who am I? I'm just an average guy with an opinion. I don't work for an auto-related business or know anyone who does and am not, in any way, connected to the automobile industry or a member of a union. I'm not being paid and I host this website at my own expense. I'm not a car or truck expert. I can change my own oil and sparkplugs but that's about the extent of my mechanical skills. I don't read Consumer Reports or compare reliability statistics. My opinions are based on my own experience driving American cars over the last thirty years. I believe American cars are, in general, well made. I haven't had any of the bad experiences or breakdowns that people seem to associate with American cars. I did have a water pump go out on a 74 Dodge Challenger once and get my share of the Check Engine lights but nothing beyond fair wear and tear and certainly nothing worse than what any car would have. I believe there has been a concerted propaganda effort staged against American cars because despite their quality they are subject to the fiercest, almost fervant criticism. The purpose of this site is to encourage others to buy American cars when they buy a car and to explain why buying Japanese and German cars is bad for the country and wrong.. I sincerely care that America's share of the auto market is declining. And I don't think it's right that we heap unproven and unwarranted criticism on our own industry. I don't like it that, in my own country, I have to defend my preference for American cars against vicious attacks and a sarcastic bias for foreign cars. I realize that it's somewhat difficult to buy only American products these days. I'll be the first to admit that my house is full of imported and Japanese products. Because I like quality and because the majority of the products are Japanese or foreign anyway. But when it comes to cars, it's easy to find an American-made, quality alternative. Buying a car is the biggest investment most people will make in their life time, second only to their home. They're expensive and a substantial profit is made on the sale. That profit should go to our country to support our economy and not some other nation's. So please do the right thing and Drive American! ![]() Buy the Drive American bumper sticker |
